Vmed VacuPad Surgical Support Device with Dynamic Heat Control VacuPad Flyer.pdf (Access to PDF literature requires the free Acrobat Reader www.adobe.com)
The VacuPad is a flexible vacuum pad used as a surgical support device to support and hold patients under anesthesia during and after surgical or diagnostic procedures. VacuPads are designed specifically for animal surgery and can be molded and formed to the patient when soft. When air is evacuated from inside the pad, it becomes ridged and molds to the body shape, holding the patient securely and comfortably in the desired position. Body heat loss leading to hypothermia is a risk for all surgical patients and most often occurs with smaller animals. Some studies show a reduced risk of infection if body heat is maintained during and after surgery. The VacuPad contains Dynamic Heat Control media which helps maintain body heat. A water circulating pad may be used on top of the VacuPad. VacuPad Benefits
General Characteristics
User Instructions 1. Pre-heat the soft VacuPad to 105° F for 30-60 minutes prior to use. Do not exceed 150° F. The easiest method is to place an electric heating pad on the black surface of the VacuPad. Remove the heating pad prior to use. The VacuPad can also be pre-warmed using a heat lamp, oven, heated operating table or similar means. Microwave ovens are not suitable. VacuPads store heat from the heat source and conduct it to the patient for a period of 30-60 minutes. 2. Close valve on VacuPad; connect hose from hand pump. 3. Place VacuPad on operating table and place animal on VacuPad in the position desired. Hand-form the pad around the patient and evacuate the air. Two strokes will evacuate the small pad and 4-5 strokes will evacuate the large pad. When the air is evacuated the pad becomes ridged and holds the animal in the desired position. Approximately 15 cm HG vacuum is needed for best rigidity. This is easily achieved using the VacuPump. 4. To release vacuum, open valve. Cleaning, Repair and Warranty Clean with soap and water. Dilute bleach and hospital disinfectants can be used. VacuPads are made with two layers of heavy, nylon-reinforced vinyl and are quite durable to scratch or cutting movements, but less durable to sharp puncture forces. Punctures are effectively sealed with a piece of non-breathing surgical tape or regular Scotch tape over the hole. The tape works well because the vacuum draws the tape patch toward the puncture ensuring a tight seal with each vacuum draw. Vinyl patch kits for larger holes can be purchased wherever inflatable products are sold. VACUPADS ARE WARRANTED FOR ONE YEAR EXCLUDING DAMAGE OR MISUSE. WARNING: NEVER USE AN ELECTRIC HEATING PAD BETWEEN THE VACUPAD AND THE PATIENT SINCE THIS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS BURNS TO THE PATIENT. Contact and Ordering Information
